Gilded flowers bloom on the midnight sleekness of Thai lacquer. Expertly carved from mango wood, the design by Subin Tositarat frames a tabletop mirror. The piece is lacquered with up to twenty coats, with drying periods in between each coat. The final layer is washed and polished. Then a gilding technique called lai rot nam, which means "watered pattern," is applied. The motifs are etched free-hand and filled with shimmering gold leaf.
